Boy Scout Troop 633 Simi Valley

Backpacking food should be compact, nutritious, easy to fix, nonperishable and tasty. There are two upcoming clinics to help Scouts with menu planing and preparation when backpacking.

6:45pm on February 27 at Simi Covenant

We’ll cover the following topics:

• Cook kits
• Backpacking food staples
• Menu planning
• Cooking Options

We’ll try the following recipes:

• Blueberry crisp bars
• Apple Pie Oatmeal
• BBQ Chicken Wraps
• Thanksgiving Chicken
• Dehydrated meals
• Pudding Cocoa

6:45pm on March 5 at Simi Covenant

Volunteers will review their completed 2 day backpacking meal plan and prepare one meal. We’ll weigh the food and utensils used to prepare the meal.

There is a service opportunity on Presidents Day, February 20, at the Ronald Reagan Library.  They are looking for 15 Scouts to come and help run the various activity booths for their annual Presidents Day Celebration.  Scouts are needed from 9am to 3pm.  Lunch will be provided by the Library. Introduction to Leadership Training (ILST) will be at Simi Covenant Church from 9:00 am to 12:00 pm.  This course is taught several time a year and is intended for all scouts, especially those who are in leadership positions in the Troop.  Any scout interested in attending the National Youth Leadership Training course next summer should take the ILST course.

First Class Compass Course will be at Rancho Simi Park on Erringer Road from 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm. This course is for any scout who hasn’t yet passed this requirement. Scouts do not need have earn their 2nd Class rank, but they should have completed their Tenderfoot compass requirement. Scouts should bring compasses and wear class B scout T-shirts.
